30pc people vaccinated in five, 10pc in three cities

Balochistan and Sindh performed poorly as none of their major cities achieved the 30 percent limit.

ISLAMABAD: Among the major cities of Pakistan, only five have so far been able to vaccinate their respective populations by over 30pc while three cities have not even vaccinated 10pc of their people.

According to official data collected by The News, Islamabad, Abbottabad, Mirpur, Gilgit and Rawalpindi are the cities where over 30 percent of the population has been vaccinated till now. Whereas, Gujranwala, Mardan and Quetta have yet vaccinated only 10 percent or below of their respective populations.

In addition, Pakistanis falling in the group age of 40 to 49 are the highest out of the total corona-vaccinated population in the country. People of 18 to 29 years are around 49 million with only 1.8 million vaccinated so far. When contacted, Health Secretary Aamir Ashraf Khawaja acknowledged that Pakistan might achieve herd immunity if the administration succeeded in vaccinating 70 million people as per the national target by the end of the year. As per a survey, about 50pc of people want to be vaccinated, he added.

The data shared with this correspondent by official sources shows the population which is eligible for vaccination is over 18 in different cities of Pakistan. Out of Mirpur's total eligible population for vaccination, 74 percent have yet registered themselves. With a population of 98,824 persons, 73,348 have registered themselves and 29,415 have been vaccinated in Mirpur.

Forty percent of the total eligible population of Abbotabad have received vaccinations. Out of the total population of 162,060 people, 64,919 have received jabs. However, 78,226 people got themselves registered for vaccination in the city which is nearly half of the total population.

In Islamabad, over 500,000 vaccinations took place. Over 683,015 have registered themselves up till now. In addition, 501,557 people have already been vaccinated in Islamabad, making it 34pc of the total population of the capital. The total population of Rawalpindi above 18 is over 1.4m out of which 671,210 have already registered themselves. Over 469,195 people have been vaccinated in Lahore. According to the data, 33pc of eligible people in Rawalpindi have been vaccinated until today.

In Gilgit, 36pc of the total eligible population has been vaccinated till this day. Out of the total population of 73,350, 35,449 have registered themselves whereas 26,693 have already been vaccinated. In Mardan, only 3pc have been vaccinated while 18pc of the total eligible population have yet registered themselves in Mardan. Out of 1.1m people in the city, only 34,775 have yet been vaccinated. In Quetta, 8pc of the total eligible population was vaccinated. With 651,096 people in the city, 94,000 have registered themselves out of which 54,181 have been vaccinated. Only 14pc of the eligible population has so far registered themselves in Quetta.

The total population of Lahore above 18 is over 7.5 million out of which, over 1.7m have already registered for vaccinations. Including both partial and complete vaccinations, 1,238,926 have been vaccinated in Lahore. According to the data, 71pc of Lahoris have been vaccinated out of the 23 percent of the total population which has registered for vaccination till now. Whereas, a total of 16pc of eligible people have been vaccinated in Lahore.

With over 2.2m population in Multan, 444,579 have registered out which 54pc are already vaccinated (241,551). Only 11 percent of the total eligible population has been vaccinated in Multan till today.

In Gujranwala, 10 percent of the eligible population has been vaccinated so far. The city with nearly 1.5m population has vaccinated 294,418 so far. Further, 20pc of the eligible population has been registered in Gujranwala.

In Faisalabad, 13pc of the total eligible population has been vaccinated so far. A total of 522,169 registries took place out of which 285,313 have been vaccinated. With over 2.1m population, 25 percent of people have registered themselves for vaccination.

In Karachi, a total of 16 percent of eligible population has been vaccinated as of today. The city consists of over 10.1m people above 18 out of which 1.6m have been vaccinated. A total of 2.2m people in Karachi have registered themselves out of which 72 percent have been vaccinated. Over 22 percent over 18 in Karachi have yet registered themselves.

Fourteen percent of eligible population in Hyderabad have been vaccinated. The city has a total population of approximately 1.2m out of which 240,518 have so far registered themselves. Whereas, a total of 162,893 have been vaccinated so far in Hyderabad.

In Peshawar, 20pc of the eligible population has registered themselves and 16p of them is already vaccinated. Out of 1.2m eligible population in Peshawar, 195,535 have been vaccinated so far out of 245,606 registries.

In Muzaffarabad, with the population of 365,762, 31 percent have registered themselves for vaccination. Whereas, 46,043 have already been vaccinated which is 13 percent of the total population. In addition, according to the data, Pakistanis of 40 to 49 are the highest among the vaccinated population in the country till now. Out of 20 million, between 40 and 49, approximately 2.6 million have been vaccinated with over 4.2 million registries across the country.

People of 18 to 29 years are around 49 million. Only 4 million of the age group have yet registered themselves with 1.8 million vaccinated so far. People of 30 to 39 years have made 4.7 million registries across the country. With over 29 million of the age group, 2.6 million have yet been vaccinated.

People between 50 and 59 are around 13.6 million in Pakistan out of which 3.5 million have registered themselves and over 2.3 million have already been vaccinated. People of 60 to 69 years are about 8.1 million. Around 2.1 million of the age group have registered themselves with 1.4 million vaccinated. People of 70 years are around 5.4 million. Total registrations among this age group are over 1.1 million with 741,308 already vaccinated.
