Seminar on drug abuse

LAHORE : The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Saturday organised an online seminar in connection with the International Drug Abuse Day to create awareness among students about the issues related to drugs and strengthening action and cooperation to make society free from drug abuse.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the seminar while Director Counselling Programme Willing Ways/Founder of Wellnesshive Uzma Sadaqat, Convener Anti-Drug and Tobacco Committee/Chairperson Department of Anatomy and Histology Prof Dr Hafsa Zenab, Associate Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Associate Senior Tutor Faiz Rasool and a large number of students joined the event.

Addressing the participants, Dr Nasim Ahmad said the UVAS administration was trying its best to make university's all campuses smoke-and drug-free.

For the purpose, it is strengthening the anti-drug tobacco committee (ADTC), with the cooperation of student proctors.

Uzma Sadaqat delivered a motivational lecture to the UVAS student proctors to tackle the menace of drug abuse among youths. She also spoke about the steps taken for prevention of drug abuse among the youths.

Prof Dr Hafsa Zenab said the UVAS students, proctors and teachers would play their key role as an ambassador to disseminate the objectives of the anti-drug tobacco committee in sensitising the community regarding the harmful effects of drug use to save the younger generation.

Dr Ali Raza Awan said that nowadays, some people were using drugs to boost their potential and abilities, but, infecting, drug abuse destroyed their immune system and could make them mentally ill.
