Irresponsible statement
June 23, 2021
In his recent interview to a foreign journalist, Prime Minister linked rape to women’s clothes. Our leaders do have a history of making ‘inappropriate comments’ on serious issues like women’s rights and sexual abuse. In the early 2000s, when the Mukhtar Mai case gained global attention, the former president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, said that many Pakistanis were of the view that false rape allegations were an easy way to move abroad.
It is time to teach Pakistani men how to treat women with respect and dignity. Also, the authorities must announce strict punishment for rape, acid attacks, and child sexual abuse.
