PESHAWAR: After several years of financial issues, the University of Peshawar has paid salaries and pensions to employees and also has surplus amount during the last two months, a senior administrative official of the university said on Monday.
Speaking to The News, UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Idrees said that in order to make the university self-sufficient, the government had also released funds so that the university does not have to borrow money to pay salaries and pensions. “The university took loans for payment of salaries in the past. However, with the support of the KP government, we have paid salaries to the employees as well as pensions and also met the running cost during the last two months and also have surplus amount,” he added.
Discussing research activities, Dr Idrees said that another priority area for him is the thesis of M.Phil and PhD students in the university. “Since the beginning of the year 2021, Advance Studies Research Board (ASRB) held eight sessions, which approved the research topics of many M.Phil and PhD scholars. This is very important because many students were stuck in this process. Each time we get a few cases, we hold ASRB to clear those cases so that the time of students is not wasted,” he added.
He also said that biometric attendance machines would be installed in the university to ensure that teachers and other staff perform their duties and remain available for students from 8am till 4pm.
