Rain lowers mercury; more showers forecast

LAHORE:The city received moderate but scattered rain on early hours of Sunday, which brought down mercury giving a relief to heat-stricken citizens.

Met officials predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours. They said seasonal low lies over northwest of Balochistan and its adjoining areas while moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal were penetrating upper and central parts of the country.

They predicted rain-wind/thundershower in Punjab, KPK and Kashmir while isolated heavy falls and hailstorm were also likely during the period. They said hot and dry weather was expected in other parts of the country.

The Met officials warned that wind and thunderstorm with heavy falls at times may generate urban flooding in low-lying areas of Azad Kashmir, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot.

Rainfall was also recorded in several cities including Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Hafizabad, Mangla, Narowal, Kasur, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Murree, Joharabad, MB Din, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sargodha, Barkhan, Kotli, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, Garhi Dupatta, Kakul, Balakot, Saidu Sharif, Malam Jabba and Pattan. Sunday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Nokkundi, Dalbandin and Sibbi where mercury reached 48°C while in Lahore it was 33.4°C and minimum was 21.8°C.
