CDA asked to restore licensed kiosks within three days

Special Committee on Allotment and Cancellation of Cabins (Kiosks) in Islamabad Chairman MNA Ibadullah presented a report on the floor of the National Assembly on Friday.

In its report, the special committee observed that the cancellation and demolition of kiosks was illegal and unjustified as these were catering to the needs of new settlers and needy people since 1968 and the CDA started licensing in 1978.

The report said that at present, 485 licence-holding kiosks were functional and the CDA demolished most of the legal kiosks during odd hours without allowing their owners to carry out their goods which was illegal and against law of the land.

The special committee recommended that the CDA should restore all 485 licence-holding kiosks within three days and formulate a policy to differentiate between legal and illegal kiosks within 15 days of the meeting in order to stop illegal mushroom growth of kiosks in Islamabad. “The CDA may scrutinise the licences of owners of kiosks and take stern action against encroachers,” the report said.  The members of the committee expressed gratitude for taking interest in the issue.
