LAHORE: The Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) has received applications for more than the land allocated for Bahawalpur Industrial Estate, PIEDMC Chairman SM Tanveer said on Friday.

"During a recent visit of PIEDMC Chief Executive Officer Naveed Mushtaq Gill to Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the entrepreneurs of the area have shown an extraordinary interest in signing memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for booking of industrial plots," he added.

He said the Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company has a greater number of MoUs in hand against the area reserved for the industrial estate.

The Bahawalpur Industrial Estate is located at Mauza Aagha Pur Tehsil Bahawalpur. Its total area is 483 acres (allotted 375, extension 108 acres). The topographic survey of the area is in process, he said.

In addition, hiring of consultant and contractor for infrastructure development works is also in progress.

The Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company chairman said the Punjab chief minister had always prioritised the economic uplift of South Punjab. Already, the PIEDMC has developed Rahim Yar Khan Industrial Estate successfully, which is helpful in creating jobs for locals.

"Now the decision to set up Bahawalpur Industrial Estate is another milestone of the Punjab chief minister and the rising demand on the part of the local entrepreneurs speaks volumes about the confidence they have posed on the industrial policy of the Punjab government," he added.

It is also a proof of the performance of Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company management in developing the backward areas through rapid industrialisation to match the facilities of big cities under the able leadership of the Punjab chief minister, he said.

"Each industrial estate in Punjab has a potential to create 150 jobs per acre," he added.

He expressed the hope that rapid industrialisation would eliminate poverty and reduce a deep sense of deprivation in South Punjab.

He also thanked the Punjab government for doling out all resources to Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company in its efforts to ensure economic growth of South Punjab.
