Islamabad: In a bid to help Islooites find the relevant polling stations to cast their votes in the local governmentelections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday introduced an interactive online satellite map of polling stations in the capital's urban and rural areas.
The map, developed by the ECP with the collaboration of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a desktop and cellphone app and available at its official website, gave users not only the exact location of the desired polling stations but also the recent pictures of their entrances.
It also gave the number of booths put up and voters registered at every polling station.
People welcomed the initiative, saying that they learnt about where to cast votes by pushing a button and thus saving their time. They said the app would also address complaints about the change of polling stations at the eleventh hour and thus ensuring the fairness of the electoral exercise.
The voters also demanded that the ECP post electoral lists online for public information and verification.
