IIU Shariah Academy trains ‘muftis’

A three-month long training programme for ‘muftis’ organised by the Shariah Academy of the International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad, concluded here on the university’s Faisal Masjid campus.
The programme was attended by 35 ‘muftis’ from across the country, including five officials of Azad Jammu and Kashmir religious affairs ministry.
The participants were given topics for discussion to cover significant points of the programme, including Islamic economics, computer, objectives of Shariah, and principles of Fiqah.
The concluding ceremony was presided over by IIUI President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Ulema and ‘muftis’ had the responsibility of forging unity among Muslims and thus, promoting brotherhood.
He said Ulema and khateebs must be aware of contemporary challenges so that could provide solution to them in light of the teachings of Islam.
Dr. Sohail Hassan, director at the Dawah Academy, said Ulema must resolve issues with the help of research in light of Islamic teachings.
