Tevta to start garment courses

LAHORE
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta), Punjab will start garment and hospitality related courses with the technical assistance of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Turkey. Tevta will start these courses at newly-established building of Government Institute of Emerging Technology, Township, Lahore.
It was decided in a meeting of three-member delegation of TIKA with Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh here at Tevta secretariat, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday. The delegation included Acting Head of Department Social and Bilateral Projects, Vocational and Technical Training Division, Ministry of Education Mrs Sennur Cetin, TIKA Coordinator in Pakistan Mustafa Giray and Senior Expert, Pakistan Desk T KA Mrs Hulya Kirmizigul. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, Tevta officers Abdul Qayyum, Akhter Abbas Bharwana, Mustafa Kamal Pasha, Maqsood Ahmed, Ayesha Qazi, Sarfraz Anwar and others.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that garments manufacturing and hospitality sectors were key export-oriented industries for Pakistan which requires well-trained skilled workforce. Support of Turkey in skill up-gradation of workforce for these sectors will not only be beneficial for the industry but will go a long way for strengthening Pak-Turkey friendship.
Tevta chairperson also discussed in detail the scope of technical assistance in the proposed garment and hospitality related courses. Turkish support in these courses, provision of machinery and equipment, training of trainers in Turkey, curriculum development and accreditation for garments and technical assistance for curricula, training of teachers and accreditation for hospitality and tourism are some of the key areas of cooperation between both partners.
Turkish delegation also visited newly-established building of Government Institute of Emerging Technology, Township and appreciated the construction of the state-of-the-art building. The delegation agreed to provide technical assistance for the starting of these courses at this centre.
