Islamabad : Adapting to the changed scenario that makes social distancing a requirement to remain safe from the effects of the COVID19 virus, many groups have acted responsibly and thanks to technology, shifted to using the various platforms provided by the internet.
So it was that the Floral Art Society (FAS) Rawalpindi/Islamabad chapter (Magnolia Club) organized its second virtual meeting titled, ‘Nature offers - we Utilize,’ wherein different techniques on the theme were demonstrated by a senior expert of FAS, Farhana Azim. She highlighted the different aspects of plant material gifted to us by nature and how well these could be utilized in an arrangement. Working on four different arrangements, she provided tips on the care and conditioning of the materials and explained how each material provides a different design element; how it could be effectively used when composing an exhibit and highlighted the importance of choosing the correct flower and foliage to create a contrast while keeping the proportion intact. She introduced the use of Reed (Kaana) as a water source and depicted different methods of how it could be used. It was a new learning experience for those who participated.
Due to the current situation all the material used was from the members own gardens or from the roadside outside their house. The meeting ended with members enjoying learning new techniques from the comfort of their home – forty two members had joined the meeting, hailing from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and even Canada! Those who could not connect or were busy elsewhere were sorry to have missed the program but were eager to know when the next virtual will be held and what the subject would be. Hats off to those who arrange and administer these meetings!
