Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali has said it is imperative to revamp the police department through reforms so as to ensure good governance and accountability and to enhance the capacity building of the force.
This he said while presiding over a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by the additional inspectors general of traffic, Special Branch and CTD Karachi as well as the DIGs of headquarters and administration.
Jamali stressed the need for introducing strict protocol at all check posts and police stations, besides preparing a daily performance sheet of officers and personnel.
He ordered that targeted training programmes for police officers and personnel who had been assigned sensitive tasks be ensured.
He called for improving efficiency by accelerating the ongoing computerisation of the police department.
The IGP issued directives to strengthen community policing policy. "Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organisational strategies which support the systematic use of partnership and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues.”
Earlier, the IGP held a meeting with a delegation led by Allama Abbas Kumaili to discuss security measures for Muharram.
The meeting took place at the CPO and was also attended by Additional IGP Karachi Mushtaq Mehar and other senior officers.
The delegation discussed security steps for Muharram processions and Majalis.
The IGP directed the DIGs and the SSPs to maintain regular contacts with religious leaders and also ensure police presence where required.
The meeting discussed the need for installing walkthrough gates at mosques and secret cameras to monitor the security arrangements.
