Tiger Force volunteers briefed about duties

LAHORE:The first meeting of Prime Minister’s Tiger Force was held here in which the volunteers were briefed about their duties.

Officials said the meeting was held at Town Hall and was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Ashgar Joiya. Other senior officials were also present. The volunteers were told that initially they will perform duties outside quarantine centres and locked down localities in the provincial metropolis.

The ADCR told the Tiger Force that they may also be assigned the tasks of checking price hike and price control in coming days. He said this was the first time that such a big number of young volunteers had offered their free of cost services to the government.

Ali Abbas said the district government and other government officers/officials will fully support Tiger Force in completing their tasks and the volunteers would be included in all types of relief works being carried out in the City.

Driver injured: A car driver suffered minor injuries after his speeding car fell into a canal on Sunday.

The driver identified as Abid was on his way to Johar Town from Thokar Niaz Baig when he lost control over the steering due to speeding. As the result, the vehicle fell into the canal. The driver survived as the passersby pulled him out of the canal.

POs arrested: Vehari district police arrested 314 dangerous proclaimed offenders (POs) involved in heinous crimes. Among the arrested offenders 26 are of A category and 288 of B category.

Meanwhile, police also arrested 61 illicit arms carriers and lodged 102 cases against drug pushers. Police registered 12 cases on violation of the law on loudspeaker use, three on violation of the tenancy law and 15 cases on violation of security ordinance. Furthermore, 71 cases were registered under Section 144 imposed in the wake of coronavirus epidemic.

SHO suspended: The DIG Lahore suspended Garhi Shahu SHO Sub-Inspector Nadeem Khalid over surge in heinous crimes in the area.

During a meeting held on Sunday to review the crime situation in the City, he warned the SHOs to improve their performance and directed the divisional SPs to visit the scenes of heinous crimes personally.

arrested: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) claimed to have arrested 180 criminals, including 64 proclaimed offenders (POs) and two court absconders during the last week. PHP teams arrested 50 drug pushers and 66 illicit arms carriers and seized drugs and arms from their possession.

Action: City traffic police took action against 165,266 motorbikes on violation of a ban on pillion riding during the lockdown. Police issued 22,512 challan tickets to car drivers for carrying more than one person, impounded 9,542 vehicles on different violations and released 5,378 cars after warning.
