The managing director (MD) of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Asadullah Khan, has directed its officials to ensure a proper supply of water to different areas of the city during the month of Ramazan, specially the lockdown period.

According to a press statement from the water board issued on Thursday, the MD water board has asked the officials to strictly monitor the valve operation in the city.

He directed all the departments of the water board to remain in proper coordination with each other for a better supply of water. He said the elected representatives of the city and different local government departments should also be taken on board for the supply of water.

Khan said the complaints of citizens should also be addressed on an immediate basis. He was on a visit to inspect construction work of the water board in the wee hours of Thursday along with some elected representatives of the local government and the water board staff.

KWSB deputy chief engineer Syed Sheikh, superintendent engineer Asif Qadri and executive engineer Suhail Adeep were also with Khan during the visit. The KWSB MD said the water board had much less water than the demand of the city.

“Due to the COVID-19 and now the holy month of Ramazan, the demand and use of the water has increased manifolds,” he said, adding that the water board was making all-out efforts to supply water to every corner of the city.

With a proper monitoring of the valve system and ensuring gaps in the water supply, he said it could be made sure that far-flung localities and elevated areas get water.

He said the water board was making sure that every area of the city got water since the lockdown came into effect, he said. “We are also making efforts to keep the sewerage system of the city clean,” he said.
