PESHAWAR: A meeting decided on Thursday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would start providing various kinds of relief funds to registered workers of various industries and fields in the province.
The funds include merit and death grants, disability pensions, pension to their relatives in case of death and ensuring 100 percent educational scholarship to the children of the labourers.
The decision was taken at the meeting, chaired by Minister for Labour and Culture Shaukat Yousufzai at the Workers Welfare Board office regarding registration of workers and labour with ESSI. The minister was given a detailed briefing on the procedure for granting marriage and death grants and educational scholarships under the Workers Welfare Board on Thursday.
It was stated that effective legislation would be done to ensure the registration of mines and mineral workers with ESSI. Shaukat Yousafzai said that Chief Minister Mahmood Khan wants to provide maximum facilities to the poor and the labour class.
He said that unfortunately, most workers were unaware of the social security and benefits that could be gained under EOBI, which is why a large section of labourers are deprived of such facilities.
He directed the Labor Department to immediately launch an awareness campaign regarding these facilities among labourers and publish pamphlets, advertisements on the media and joint seminars and workshops of employers and employees.
