‘CPSP to meet specialists need in emergency depts’

College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) has evolved a strategy to meet the requirement of specialists in emergency departments across the country.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the CPSP, in this regard, has launched a new fellowship in Emergency Medicine. According to this, initially doctors are at different stages of training within the country and abroad. The CPSP has also formulated a policy to send the best performers to England and Ireland for further two-year of training after the IMM. More than 200 doctors are getting training in seven specialties in Ireland.
To widen the horizon of training, a high ranking delegation of CPSP led by Professor Zafar Ullah Chaudhry, President, CPSP, visited the royal colleges of England and Ireland and had consultative meetings with the presidents of royal colleges and their representatives. The delegation comprised Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, Senior Vice-President, CPSP, Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, Director National Residency Programme Maj. Gen. Salman Ali, DGIR and Prof. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi. Dr. Syed Rizwan Ahmad, Ambassador of Pakistan in Ireland, hosted a dinner in honour of the CPSP delegation. The members of steering committee of both colleges had a detailed meeting and decided to expand the numbers of specialties up to 11 for training in Ireland. These specialties include Ophthalmology, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology and Endocrinology. The IMM qualified doctors are interviewed by the presidents or their representatives of Royal Colleges through video link. The selected doctors will get two-year training in the best institutions of Ireland. After completing their training, they will have to come back to Pakistan to serve their people. This policy of CPSP is bringing good name to the college and country as well.
