Dir residents longing for a haircut

DIR: Like other parts of the province, the people of the Upper Dir are also finding it difficult to have a haircut due to the closure of the barbers’ shop because of the coronavirus lockdown.

Many people have grown long hair and have not shaved for days owing to closure of hair saloons for last three weeks. The lockdown has also added to the financial woes of the barbers, who are also feeling the pinch. Except for the grocery shops and medicine stores, the district administration of Upper Dir had asked the traders, business centres and barbers to close down in order to contain the spread of the Covid-19.

Nauman Khan, a resident of Dir, said that his hair had grown long as he had not had a haircut due to the closure of the barbers’ shop and was looking untidy. Another resident said that his messy hair made him laugh when he looked in the mirror. Shahabuddin and Sajid, who are barbers by profession, said that they could not make ends meet and had to seek loans to feed their children.

They said that some customers made calls to them to visit their homes for work, but they felt uncomfortable. They said the government should allow them to reopen their shops. They said they would allow one customer at a time to enter their hair saloons to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
