NOWSHERA: The authorities arrested 35 persons and sent them to prison for violating social distancing rules on the prevailing coronavirus pandemic in Jehangira Town in the district on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali Khan told media that Assistant Commissioner Saman Abbas and Additional Assistant Commissioner Farooq Khan along with personnel of police and security forces visited the bazaars in Jehangira Town and apprehended 35 individuals for ignoring precautionary measures against the spread of Covod-19 in the area.

He said the arrestees were sent to prison so the people should start adopting preventive steps against the fast-travelling viral disease in the district. Earlier, DC Shahid Ali Khan and Nowshera Station Commander Brigadier Nazir Hussain visited the sale points established for disbursement of relief cash under the Ehsaas programme to the poor and deserving people across the district. They inspected the arrangements made for the payment of relief funds and safety steps taken against the coronavirus.

The officials urged beneficiaries to maintain social distancing while receiving cash at the designated branches of banks and sale points set up in schools and other buildings. They also contacted the head-offices of relevant banks to keep their branches open on weekends so more people could get the relief cash easily and prevent rush during the payment process.

They said that more sale points would be established in the district to facilitate relief beneficiaries. The DC said that at the moment they had a huge data of poor daily wagers and deserving families while many needy people were under verification process to get the relief cash through this digitalised programme. He said that the staff were working day and night to prepare the lists so the deserving people could get the relief package at their doorsteps.

He appealed the people to follow government instructions and stay home to contain the spread of fast-travelling viral infection.
