KP govt declares schools’ closure as advanced summer vacation

PESHAWAR: The KP government has decided to treat the current closure of public sector and private educational institutions as ‘advanced summer vacations’ and postpone the internal as well as board examination till May 31.

A formal notification to this effect was issued on Monday by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department. The notification reads: “In continuation to this department’s notification of even number dated March 13, 2020 and dated March 24, 2020, the provincial government is pleased to order that all schools shall remain closed till May 31. This period of closure shall be treated as advanced summer vacations.” The notification stated: “Board examinations or any other internal exams/assessments in the schools shall stand postponed till May 31, 2020.”

The department asked the educational institutions informally that the schools would reopen from June 1. School timing from June 1 to August 13 would be from 7am to 11am without morning assembly and break.

After the Independence Day on August 14, the school timing will return to routine, sources said. The sources said that in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown, the schools would open for one day during April on which the students until grade 10 would be given new books and vacation task. Also, new admissions would be done on the same day, the sources said.

The remaining papers of grade-9 are expected to resume from June 2. The examinations for grade-10 are likely to commence from June 12 and the higher secondary school certificate examination is expected to start from June 22.

The students from nursery up to grade-7 have already been given promotion to the next class. The result of grade-8 would be announced on March 31.Admission to first year and third year is expected to be extended by one month.
