Newly planted trees beautify Upper Dir
DIR: The majority of the trees planted under the “Billion Tree Tsunami” project in Upper Dir some five years are growing well and has added to beauty of the district.
Dir Upper has many picturesque valleys like Kumrat, Jehaz Banda, Usheri Dara, Zakhana, sky-land, Sheklai Top, lakes, waterfalls and dense forests on hills. However, the trees planted under the “Billion Tree Tsunami” project has beautified the district.
New picnic spots have been established for tourists particularly local people to bring their families to spend some quality time and shake off tension. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Abdul Majeed told a function held in connection with spring plantation drive that they had selected those areas for planting the saplings, which did not have trees. He said that they had achieved their target of 80 per cent growth during the “Billion Tree Tsunami” plantation drive from 2014 to 2018.
He lauded the people of Upper Dir for their cooperation and said the task could not be completed without their support. Abdul Majeed said that people had given land to the Forest Department for plantation. Deputy Commissioner Khalid Iqbal Khattak also visited some of those areas to observe the plantation drive.
