LAHORE
A six-year-old boy died after a rickshaw plunged into an open drain while saving a bike rider in Shahpur Kanjran on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Kashif, son of Mohammad Boota, a rickshaw driver by profession.
It was reported that Boota along with his son Kashif was on his way when a bike rider suddenly came on road. Boota tried to save him and his vehicle fell into the open drain. As a result, Kashif received a serious head injury and died on the spot while Boota sustained injuries.
Victim Kashif was the only brother of three sisters.
Found dead: A 15-year-old boy was recovered dead from the canal in Chung area on Saturday.
Some passersby spotted a body floating in the canal and informed the police. The body was fished out and removed to city morgue for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
The body apparently bore no marks of bruises, police said.
burnt: Cloths worth lakhs of rupees burnt into ashes when a fire broke out in a cloth godown at Kot Lakhpat on Saturday.
The cause of fire was said to be short circuit. Upon being informed, the firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished fire after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported in the said incident.
CCPO: The CCPO handed over Rs5m and cheques for Rs17,500,000 to cricketer Mohammad Hafeez here on Saturday.
He also appreciated the CIA police for recovering the money from the accused. Mohammad Hafeez was deceived by a property dealer who had neither allotted him a plot nor returned money. The accused also handed over a cheque to him which bounced. Meanwhile, Lahore police arrested one of killers of Ghaffar Gujar who was killed in Garhi Shahu some days back. The arrested person was identified as Ahmad. Police arrested him from the limits of Kahna police station.
woman dies: A 35-year-old woman expired in a local hospital on Saturday, almost eight days back when she was burnt by her in-laws in Islampura.
The victim identified as Ghulam Fatama, wife of Mohammad Awais, hailed from Faisalabad. The victim was married around fifteen years back and her husband worked abroad.
The victim’s brother Ikhlaq said his sister was often manhandled by her in-laws over property dispute. He said they were informed eight days back that Fatama had received burns. He accused victim’s in-laws including Umar, brother-in-law of his sister, of setting her ablaze, resulting into her death. The deceased is survived by three children. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy.
