A wanted gangster was shot dead in an encounter with the Kalri police in Lyari.
According to the Kalri police, it received information about a robbery in progress on the main Mauripur Road, near Crown cinema.
When a police mobile reached the spot, the suspects opened fire which was retaliated. One suspect was arrested in injured condition while his accomplice managed to escape.
The injured robber was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he was pronounced dead and a pistol was recovered from his possession along with stolen articles.
Sindh IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali announced a reward of Rs50,000 and for the contingent of Kalri police which had caught the suspect.
Rangers’ arrests
The personnel of paramilitary agency during targeted raids in different areas of the city arrested 31 suspects said to be involved in heinous crimes.
According to the Rangers’ spokesman, raids were conducted in Ali Muhammad Goth, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Mazar-e-Quaid, Bhangoria Goth, P&T Colony and Hazrat Bilal Colony areas.
He said 22 criminals who include activists of a political party and members of banned outfits were arrested during the raids and weapons were also recovered from them.
Moreover, during an intelligence-based raid in Quaidabad area, nine members of the Lyari gang war were arrested after a brief a shootout.
The suspects were wanted by the police in a number of criminal offences.
Three Kalashnikovs, four 9mm pistols, two 30 bore pistols, a repeater rifle and one MP 5 were found in their possession.
