Tevta to train youths as guards from next month

LAHORE
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that TEVTA will train unemployed youth as security guards through a three-month course to be started next month.
Addressing a meeting regarding the launch of this course on Friday, Chairperson TEVTA further said the course would be offered at Government College of Technology Raiwind Road and Government Technical Training Institute Gulberg as a pilot project. After the successful launch, the course will also be introduced across Punjab. TEVTA will also provide job opportunities to the passed-outs at national and international level, he claimed.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh added TEVTA had prepared the curriculum of this course while meeting the international level requirements. He further said the Chief Executive Officer of Staff Source International Qatar Ashok Shrestha during his recent visit to Pakistan had shown keen interest in this course and ensured to provide jobs to the passed-outs at Qatar.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh also said the Gulf countries required the services of security guards and many organisations of these countries had demanded the availability of trained security guards from TEVTA.
Giving further details, TEVTA Chairperson said the age limit for admission would be minimum 21 and maximum 27 years while matriculation passed candidates would be eligible however intermediate and above would be given preference for admission. Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) will award certificates to guards after the successful completion of the course, he concluded.
Aquaculture: A meeting of the UVAS-Industry Liaison Working Group on Fisheries and Aquaculture was held at Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Ravi Campus, on Friday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the inaugural session of the working group meeting while 50 participants including faculty members Director Extension Punjab Fisheries, Chief Operating Officer, Fisheries Development Board Pakistan, industry partners (fish farmer and fish feed mill owners) and postgraduate students attended the session.
Chairman Department Fisheries and Aquaculture Dr Noor Khan gave a detailed description of the sector and working group objectives and responsibilities. Speaking on the occasion, the VC appreciated the efforts of the department in bringing stakeholders on a single platform to discuss the problems/issues facing the fish industry and finding their solutions to uplift the sector. He said there was much potential in aquaculture industry and for investors to move forward and invest in various sectors like intensification, processing, preservation and marketing.
Prof Pasha advised the faculty and working group members to plan problem-oriented joint research projects and develop commercial demonstration units for students and stakeholders at UVAS and aquaculture intensification cluster units.
After the inaugural ceremony, a discussion session was held in which group members discussed major issues facing the industry, objectives of the group, its scope and future planning. Dean Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife Prof Dr Muhammad Ashraf was also present.
