Pickup driver killed in road rage shooting

LAHORE:A pickup driver was killed by unidentified suspects following a road accident in the Bhati Gate police limits on Monday.

Police have removed the body to morgue for autopsy. The victim was identified Tariq, a resident of Ferozwala. He left behind a widow and four children. The pickup met an accident with a car. The car riders scuffled with Tariq and opened firing. As a result, he died on the spot. Police reached the scene and collected evidence.

hit to death: A 25-year-old biker was crushed to death in a collision with a truck in Ravi road police limits on Monday. Police have removed the body to morgue for autopsy. The victim riding a bike LZH-8894 was on his way on the Ravi Bridge when he collided with a truck and died on the spot. The driver fled the scene. Police reached the scene and collected evidence.

Prisoner dies: A prisoner involved in a drugs case died at District Jail after a protracted illness here on Monday.

Police removed the body to morgue. The victim identified as Abdul Ghafoor was involved in a case of 9-C registered at Kahna police station and was sent to jail on March 23, 2019. He was patient of HIVNH. He was shifted to jail hospital after his condition went critical but he could not survive.

accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 955 road accidents in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In the accidents, eight people died, whereas 1040 were injured. Out of this, 625 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals. Whereas, 415 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams thus reducing the burden of hospitals. The majority (65pc) involved motorbikes, therefore effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline is essential to reduce this increasing number of road accidents.

Further, the analysis showed that 401 drivers, 36 underage drivers, 158 pedestrians, and 489 passengers were among the victims of the accidents. The statistics show that 254 accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 241 persons placing the provincial capital at top of the list followed by 78 in Faisalabad with 85 victims and at third Multan with 63 accidents and 65 victims.
