This refers to the article, ‘The system under welcome assault’ (August 28) by Ayaz Amir. We have completely changed now and therefore the tradition of citing past examples has become somewhat irrelevant and outdated. The biggest challenge is corruption and everybody seems to be concerned about it. The political shake-up to break the status quo by the PTI is a welcome development but the problem is that the party also lacks proper direction. It is true that most political parties, other than amassing wealth, have done no good to the country and the khakis have equally failed to deliver.
The recent election tribunal decisions on three seats are certainly a blow for Nawaz Sharif but the outcome of the by-polls may not be different because the PTI is badly mauled internally. Old cases against the ruling elite even if reopened today will take years to be resolved and such political hiccups it seems are not hurting the government. But what is worrying the PML-N leadership is the status quo that is coming under constant assault and this is something to be welcomed – and perhaps encouraged – with open arms as concluded by the writer.
