LAHORE: FG Polo Team outscored Barry’s by 8-5½ to qualify for the main final of the Battle Axe Polo Cup 2020 here at the LP&CC ground on Friday.
Tom Brodie was in sublime form as he played outstanding polo and smashed in superb seven goals out of FG’s total eight goals while the remaining one was converted by Col Omer Minhas. From Barry’s, which had a half goal handicap advantage, Ernesto Trotz cracked a quartet and Shah Shamyl Alam scored one.
Barry’s opened their account in the first chukker by converting a 30-yard penalty to take 1-0 lead, which couldn’t last long as FG Polo team bounced back in great style and thrashed two back-to-back goals to gain 2-1 edge. The highly-charged second chukker saw Barry’s hammering a hat-trick against one goal by FG to take back 4-3 lead.
The third chukker was fully dominated by FG Polo as they slammed in two back-to-back goals to earn 5-4 lead. in the fourth and decisive chukker, Barry’s fired in a field goal to draw the score at 5-all. It was all that Barry’s could get from the match as FG Polo then played superb polo and hammered a hat-trick of goals to win the match 8-5½.
Lahore Polo & Country Club (LP&CC) President Col (R) Shoaib Aftab graced the occasion as chief guest and witnessed the quality polo on offer while Secretary Maj (R) Babar Mehboob, polo players and their families were also present on the occasion. The second semifinal of the event will be contested today (Saturday) and the winning side will qualify for the main final, where the winning side will vie against FG Polo Team on Sunday at the LP&CC ground.
