PESSI not being privatised: minister

LAHORE:Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources Ansar Majid Khan has said that the labour cards would be given to all the registered labourers.

He made this announcement while addressing a ceremony at Multan Chungi Social Security Hospital on Thursday. The hospital MS, Dr Aslam, Rana Samiullah, Ali Shahzad, Rana Yaqoob, Muzamil Ashraf and labour leaders were present on the occasion.

The Labour leaders presented their demands to the provincial minister. The minister said that the government was not going to privatise the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI). Best treatment facilities are being provided to the labourers and their family members through social security hospitals. The government made a record llegislation last year for safeguarding the workers' rights.

The minister thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for setting up the workers welfare funds at the provincial level.

The department has been directed to overcome the shortage of the doctors in social security hospitals. Modern healthcare facilities will be provided to the labourers by upgrading the social security hospital. Strict action would be taken against the black sheep in the department, the minister warned.

He said registration process of the industrial workers had been accelerated. The PTI government has taken a number of revolutionary steps for the welfare of industrial workers. Human Resource and Labour Department was used for the personal interest in the past. He said that 100 per cent merit was being followed in promotion of the officers now.

The government has restored the confidence of industrial workers in the department, the minister said.
