95% child kidnapping cases resolved in Islamabad during 2019

Islamabad:Islamabad Police successfully resolved 95 percent cases of child kidnapping during 2019 and reunited 69 children with their families.

Following orders of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar khan, a special Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was issued to check cases of child abduction in Islamabad. Special desks were set up at level of police stations under supervision of DIG (Operations) Waqar Uddin Syed and Zonal SPs for the purpose of prompt registration of child kidnapping cases and guidance of parents.

A total of 75 cases were registered in previous year regarding kidnapping of children of which 73 were resolved. The immediate investigation started after registration of the cases ensured safe recovery of 69 children who were united to their families.

Of these recovered children, 48 were such who deliberately left their homes after conflicts with their parents, educational issues or becoming dejected on various reasons.

However, Islamabad Police succeeded in safe recovery of the children and reports about conclusion of cases were forwarded to the relevant courts. The progress on these particular cases was due to hard work and commitment of Capital police.

‘khanqahs,’ awareness campaigns were launched to check cases of child abduction and seminars were held at educational institutions and other forums. Students and their parents were provided awareness as how such cases could be avoided.

The confidence of public improved on police through these efforts which were also lauded by citizens and civil society.
