Two-day ‘Syed Maududi’ Conference concludes
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a two-day conference discussed different aspects of the life and services of Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maududi and urged the students to focus their attention on education and teachings of Islam so that they could serve the society in the right manner.
The conference titled “Syed Maududi; Ideology, Revivalist and Reformer” had been organised by the Study Aid Foundation for Excellence, University of Peshawar at the Khyber Union Hall of the historic Islamia College, which concluded on Sunday.
The conference was addressed by prominent speakers and researchers from across the country. The speakers included central chief of Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan Mohammad Amir, provincial president of Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, deputy president and member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Inayatullah Khan, director Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar Dr Fakhrul Islam, central deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Prof Mohammad Ibraheem Khan, director Dar-e-Arqam School System Syed Waqas Anjum Jaafari, Dr Dost Mohammad, Dr Shamsul Haq Hanif, Shah Nawaz Farooqi, Prof Dr Najubul Haq, Dr Arshad Javed and others. Several group discussions were also arranged during the conference. The speakers on the occasion said that Maulana Maududi was a great advocate of education especially of the women education.
Maulana Maududi was of the opinion that Islam stressed all the Muslims to acquire education. According to him, educated women were the most urgent need of the Muslim societies. However, he did not like the idea of co-education. He kept pressing the government to construct more and more educational institutions for women, one of the speakers said.
The speakers were of the opinion that there was greater need for reforming the education policies in the country. However, the rulers had no interest in improving the education system, they added. They maintained that the government should focus more attention on improving the quality of education, which was the only way to overcome the prevailing problems and put the country on the track of prosperity.
One of the speakers focused his discussion on the Maulana Maududi’s thoughts about government making and his political struggle. He said that Maulana Maududi wanted change in the society and for the purpose it was necessary to reach the corridors of power. This was the reason that Maulana Maududi formed the Jamaat-e-Islami in early 1940s. The very aim of Jamaat-e-Islami was to spread the message of Islam in its true spirit and prepare people to follow the teachings of Islam and get ready for running the affairs of the state in different capacities.
They said that Islam was a universal religion and it was necessary to reach to the corridors of power to spread the teachings of Islam. They said that Maulana Maududi rendered great services to the promotion of the true picture of Islam. He authored more than 100 books, which have been translated in 75 different languages in the world and millions of people have benefited from his writings.
