‘Check posts to control inter-provincial wheat smuggling’
SARGODHA: Commissioner Dr Farah Masood Sunday said the administration and Food Department had made the check posts at all the routes leading to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stop the inter-provincial smuggling of wheat.
She said there was a huge reserve of wheat in the godowns of Food Department. Moreover, 18,555 metric ton wheat was available in all the 32 flour mills located in the division. Presiding over a meeting, she directed the deputy commissioners to strictly monitor the check posts in a bid to control the wheat and flour prices. The meeting was also attended by Additional Commissioner Shahbaz Hussain Naqvi, ADCR Shoaib Ali, Deputy Director Food Arshad Wattoo, Assistant Commissioner General Ayesha Ghazanfar, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shoaib and other officers concerned. Dr Farah Masood besides stressing on the need of checking the stock of mills administration and to strictly monitor their outlets asked to make sure the registration of available stock in mills godowns as well. She directed for taking action against the black marketers involved in artificial shortage of flour to provide relief to the people. She also stressed on the need of activating the price control magistrates to control the prices of edibles. The commissioner directed to get rid of the commission mafia from Land Record Centres and to resolve the problems of people on priority discussed in open courts.
Police foils smuggling bid: Police on Sunday foiled a smuggling bid and arrested four accused and recovered illegal weapons and narcotics from their possession.
Police spokesman said that during checking on entrance and exit routes of the district on the direction of DPO Ammara Athar, the Phularwan police stopped a suspected vehicle bearing registration number LHE-4952 at Salam Chowk and recovered weapons from the secret places of the vehicle. Police have arrested accused Abid Tariq of Mujahid Colony Lahore. Urban Area and Factory Area police teams arrested three accused, including Omar and Moazzam Khan, and recovered 3,008 grams hashish and 1,120 grams heroin from them. Police have registered separate cases against the accused and started investigation.
