55 die in different incidents in 11 days

LAHORE:Fifty-five persons lost their lives, dozens of robbery and theft incidents took place here leaving two dead and over a dozen injured at the hands of robbers in the first 11 days of January.

Twenty two persons, including three women and a teenage girl were killed during the first four days of January 2020, and 33 persons lost their lives in murder, robbery, suicide, accidents and fire related and roof collapse incidents from January 5 to 11.

From January 1 to 4, three persons were suspected to have committed suicide, one lost his life over an old enmity, two died of cold weather, one lost his life while taking a selfie from the rooftop of a building, a security guard was killed by robbers, two men’s naked bodies were found inside a house, four died of smoke inhalation, a woman died of burns, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband and brother-in-law, a mother of four children committed suicide by hanging herself, a 21-year-old youth committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, a 30-year-old man was found dead in a washroom of a mosque, a manual labourer died after he accidentally got trapped in a concrete mixer machine, a body of an addict was found, and a 13-year-old girl expired in hospital on January 3, after a stray bullet pierced into her skull in the Misri Shah area on the New Year Night.

From January 5 to 11, 10 persons were murdered, a man died of excessive use of drugs, 13 persons were injured in five different fire related incidents, six unknown bodies were recovered, three died in roof collapse incident, a man died after being hit by a train, a man committed suicide after killing his ex-wife, and five persons lost their lives in different accidents. On Jan 5, a 30-year-old man died and condition of two others went critical due to excessive use of drugs in the Kahna area. The victim identified as Ahsan was a resident of Green Town.

A man was shot dead by unidentified bike riders in the limits of Islampura. The victim was identified as Muhammad Akram. The victim's wife accused a woman Yasmeen of being involved in the murder of her husband. She alleged that Yasmeen was frustrated over love failure as her husband had cut off relations with her. She had hired the services of criminals to kill her husband.

A 20-year-old youth Fiaz of Vehari was tortured to death by the manager of a tent service Intazar in the Hanjarwal area, following a minor issue.

Three persons, including a man, his son and a granddaughter sustained burns after a fire broke out in their house in the Kahna area. Cause of fire was said to be gas leakage. Three persons received burns when a fire broke out while refilling a bike's petrol tank in the Kahna area.

A 65-year-old man was recovered dead from Chowk Yateem Khana. The house of a senior journalist Imtiaz Alam was looted by the robbers. The robbers took away valuables, including gold and diamond ornaments and foreign currency worth millions of rupees. On January 6, a 35-year-old man Karamat of Kasur was killed by a moving train in the Kot Lakhpat area. The man was engrossed in attending a phone call while walking on the rail tracks.

On January 7, a woman and her two children were killed when roof of their dilapidated house collapsed in Yuhanabad. Two persons were injured when a cylinder exploded in the Sabzazar area. A woman and her two children were injured when a fire broke out in their house in Valencia Town.

A 38-year-old Taiyab died and two others injured by firing in Sanda area. The injured Younas, 27, and Zubair, 21, were admitted to hospital where condition of Younas was said to be critical. A 15-year-old boy Fiaz was burnt alive by some unidentified persons in Karool Ghatti, Gujarpura.

A man shot dead his ex-wife Iqra and later committed suicide in the Shadbagh area. A 60-year-old man was found dead in Bhatti Gate and a 30-year-old man was recovered dead from Macleod Road. A 40-year-old man was killed by a speeding car in the Kahna area. A bike rider Ghulam Murtaza was killed by a trailer in North Cantt. A car rider Salahuddin died after his speeding vehicle rammed into a pole. A 50-year-old man was killed by a car in the Kahna area. On January 8, a 45-year-old man was found dead in the Muslim Town area and a man was recovered dead from Bhatti Chowk, Lower Mall.

On January 9, a 22-year-old youth died in a road accident near Bhatta Chowk, RA Bazaar. The accident took place due to over speeding. The victim identified as Faisal hailed from Layyah and worked as a security guard in a bank.

Two girls were injured when a fire broke out in a house due to electric heater in the Bhatti Gate area.

On January 10, a man was shot dead by unidentified persons in his house in the Nawankot area. The victim identified as Munna Masih was asleep in his house when some unidentified persons entered his house and shot him to death.

A security guard was shot dead by three robbers in the limits of Sundar police. The victim identified as Khalid hailed from Pattoki and worked as a security guard in Bahria Town. On the day of the incident, the victim was patrolling the housing society on a bike when he spotted three robbers standing in front of an empty plot. On being asked about their identity, they manhandled with Khalid and shot at him. The robbers escaped along with the victim’s pistol. The injured Khalid was rushed to hospital where he died.

A 27-year-old man expired in hospital, four days after he was shot at and wounded in the Sanda area. One Taiyab died on the day of incident and Younas and Zubair sustained wounds and were admitted to hospital. On January 11, a tortured body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from the limits of Nishtar Colony police.

The victim was identified as Adeel, son of Ghulam Haider of Al-Mustafa Colony, Kot Lakhpat. The victim went to mosque on January 9, but did not turn up. On the day of the incident, some passersby spotted the tortured body of the victim and informed the police. Body was shifted to morgue.

A 48-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Shahdara police. The body of the victim identified as Shaukat bore marks of torture which suggested that he was subjected to torture before being killed. Police shifted the body to morgue. A 25-year-old man was found dead in the Gawalmandi area. The victim, yet to be identified, was lying dead at Lakshami Chowk. It was yet to be ascertained whether the man died in an accident or he was murdered.
