PESHAWAR: Two PPP and eight JUI-F councillors voted against their respective parties decision in Chitral district, sources said on Sunday.
The JUI-F had fielded Maulana Abdur Rehman of the Jamaat-i-Islami. However, its four members cast their votes in favour of the JI candidate.
The two members of the PPP, Sher Aziz and Ghulam Mustafa, cast their vote for JI candidate in violation of the party’s policy.
Speaking at a press conference after the election, Maulana Abdur Rehman alleged that the JI manipulated the polls. He claimed the JI leader, Maghfirat Shah, had made JUI-F members hostage at the Governor’s Cottage.
He accused deputy commissioner of openly favouring the JI leader and office-bearers., “We informed the provincial chief JUI-F Maulana Gul Naseeb about the situation,” he added.
MNA Shahzada Iftikhar said that the election should be declared null and void as it was manipulated by the JI. He said that JI central president Sirajul Haq would be responsible for any loss and damage to the government installations in the district if any untoward incident took place. The sources said the JUI-F provincial leadership had decided to take disciplinary action against the delinquent party councillors.
