NH&MP holds awareness session at UET

PESHAWAR: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) on Wednesday organised a one-day awareness session on road safety at the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar on Wednesday.

The seminar was aimed at apprising the students of driving rules and precautions required to save pedestrians from road accidents. Speaking on the occasion, Registrar UET Peshawar, Prof Dr Khizar Azam Khan urged the participants to aware youth regarding road safety measures and follow traffic principles and show discipline on roads. He appreciated the efforts of NH &MP in strict enforcement of road rules and educating the masses.

Baseer Ahmed, Senior Patrol Officer, NH & MP gave a detailed presentation and shared informative videos on common mistakes that drivers commit and end up in road accidents. “If basic road safety rules are followed, it would help in minimising the increasing trend in road accidents in Pakistan,” he added.

He said that around 1.5 million people die every year in Pakistan due to road accidents in which young people ranging from age of 15 to 29 years were the major cohort according to the WHO Report (2017-18).

The officials particularly advised the students to avoid mobile phones while driving and urged them to use helmets while riding bikes. Earlier, Chief Patrol Officer, National Highways and Motorway Police, Aneesudin appreciated the efforts of Dr Neharullah, Advisor Pakistan Institute of Chemical Engineering (PICE Peshawar chapter), the student organising society, and Prof Dr Mudassar Habib, Head of Department of Chemical Engineering, for arranging the seminar to inculcate road sense among the students and educate them on the important road safety rules.
