Chinese man granted bail in cop assault case

A city court on Monday granted bail to a Chinese national held for assaulting a traffic cop over stopping from parking his vehicle in a no-parking zone.

The additional district and sessions judge of the South district ordered releasing Yuping for a surety of Rs20,000. Police had arrested the man for beating up a traffic constable, Amir, who stopped him from parking a vehicle in a no-parking zone outside the Imtiaz superstore at the Qayyumabad roundabout.

An FIR was registered at the Korangi Industrial Area Police Station under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 337A(i) (Shajjah-i-khafifah to any person) against the Chinese national, who may also be punished with a jail term which may extend to two years.

According to the complainant, who is posted in the Zaman Town traffic police section of the Korangi district, he was kicked, punched and pushed to the ground by the foreigner after he stopped his vehicle from parking near the fence outside the store.

The driver told the police that he would have moved the vehicle, but his boss did not let him do that despite his telling him that the policeman had warned him. CCTV footage of the incident was also released after the incident in which the Chinese man was seen hitting the policeman.

A crowd of people had gathered on the spot and intervened. They helped the traffic policeman in catching the foreigner and handing him over to police, who arrived there a short while later after getting information through police helpline 15.

The Chinese man was shifted to the Korangi Industrial Area Police Station. According to Zaman Town traffic police section in-charge Moin Ahmed Shaikh, the Chinese national runs his a private store in the Defence area.
