ABBOTTABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Rubina Khalid and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Mehnaz Akbar Aziz have assured the family of the sexually abused 10-year-old student of complete legal support.

Both the women parliamentarians talked to The News here on Wednesday after visiting the victim at the Ayub Teaching Hospital.

They expressed concern over increasing incidents of sexual abuse of children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said that people from all walks of life should come forward to raise voice against the inhuman act. General Secretary People’s Doctors Forum Dr Daud Iqbal briefed the parliamentarians about the incident and informed them about the condition of the victim.

The MPs consoled the family members of the victim and assured full support in all respects including legal support to the family to help punish the culprits.

“A panel of senior lawyers would be constituted to plead the case so that the culprits should face the justice,” remarked Senator Rubina Khalid.

She criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for allegedly showing a pathetic attitude to the victim as even local MNA or MPA failed to visit the hospital to express solidarity with the affected family.

“Media should play its role to highlight the mafia supporting the culprit whereas we will make all-out efforts to support the poor family so that it sustains the pressure of any mafia,” remarked Mehnaz Akbar Aziz.

Later both the parliamentarians visited Regional Police officer (RPO) office and met with Mazharul Haq Kakakhel to discuss various aspect of the case. They assured the RPO of providing an expert team of psychiatrists for the rehabilitation of the victim student. It may be recalled here that the medical reports said the student had been sexually assaulted and tortured. The child was subjected to severe violence and his body had bruises. Police had arrested four accused. The local administration sealed the madrassa.
