Woman arrested for ‘murdering man with rolling pin’
Police on Wednesday claimed to have resolved the mystery behind the body of a man found in the Saudabad area about a week ago.
Saira Anwar Shah has been arrested for her alleged involvement in the elderly man’s murder and a rolling pin and a batan stone used in the crime were recovered from her possession. According to District Korangi SSP Faisal Abdullah Chachar, the woman was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Surjani Town.
On December 16, the corpse of 65-year-old Iqbal Amir, son of Ghulam Ahmed, wrapped in a carpet, was
discovered along the boundary wall of a Saudabad graveyard. The deceased was a private customs clearing agent. An FIR was registered at the Khokhrapar police station by the victim’s brother, Shadab Amir, against unidentified persons; however, police had also placed the section of kidnapping for ransom in the case after the family received a ransom call.
Police said that the woman confessed to the crime and told them that she was in a relationship with Iqbal Amir and he visited her house in Khokhrapar every third day. The woman told the investigators that “on December 15, he [Iqbal] came to my residence in my absence and attempted to sexually assault my daughter.”
“He was attempting to rape my daughter when I returned home. To stop him from doing harm to my daughter, I attacked him with kitchen utensils.” As a result of the attack, he died on the spot. Then, she wrapped his body in the carpet and dumped it near the graveyard.
SSP Chachar said that to change the nature of the incident, she made a phone call from Iqbal’s mobile phone to his family and demanded ransom money. She also moved to Surjani Town from Khokhrapar to avoid being arrested.
Woman found dead
A woman was found dead at her husband’s house in the Pak Colony area on Wednesday. Rescuers conveyed the body to the Civil Hospital for an autopsy where she was identified as 19-year-old Zarina.
The victim’s in-laws told the Pak Colony police that Zarina committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan after a quarrel with her husband at their house. Police said that they would record a statement of the victim’s parents, and were waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the actual cause of death.
