KARACHI: Sri Lanka’s experienced batsman Dinesh Chandimal said that if they could dismiss Pakistan below 250 in their second innings then it would be a good game for them. The 30-year-old was addressing a press conference at the end of the second day of the second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka here at the National Stadium on Friday.

Chandimal, playing his 55th Test, struck 74 off 143 balls at a crucial stage to help Sri Lanka gain an 80-run lead when they were bowled out for 271 in their first innings in response to Pakistan’s total of 191. The Balapitiya-born player said that it was a bit hotter in comparison on Friday and there was not much seam on the wicket.

“Actually it is a tough wicket to bat on. When I went out there we were in a difficult position and it was the best chance for me to help my side. I batted with a positive approach and it helped me,” Chandimal said.

Chandimal, who was dislodged by part-time bowler Haris Sohail, cracked ten fours in his solid knock. He said that the pitch may still have something for seam bowlers.

“If we get a couple of early wickets tomorrow then it will be a good match,” said Chandimal, who has scored 3770 runs in 54 Tests at a solid average of 41.42 which also include 11 centuries and 17 fifties.

About his bad days, Chandimal said that in life there were ups and downs, adding, he worked hard and now he was in good position. “No doubt, in life ups and downs come. I analyzed my batting and brought in a couple of changes in my batting and now I am on the right track,” Chandimal said.

Responding to a question about leggie Yasir Shah, Chandimal said they cannot underestimate him. “We all know how good Yasir is. But you know he has not been impressive in the last few matches and there is not much turn here but we cannot underestimate him as he is a world-class bowler. Our coach Mickey Arthur gave us some tips on how to tackle Yasir,” he said.
