MANSEHRA: A joint team of the district administration, tehsil municipal administration and police demolished dozens of structures during a drive here Thursday.
The teams of district administration led by Assistant Commissioner Talat Fahad took part in the anti-encroachment drive.
The dozens of buildings and structures were razed on the Bypass Road and Karakoram Highway. Some traders were taken into custody for attempting to resist the drive. However, the traders were released soon after the arrest.
“The anti-encroachment drive will continue until all the buildings whose owners have been served with notices are not pulled down,” Talat Fahad told reporters.
She said that tehsil municipal administration had already served notices on the owners of buildings impeding the way. The official said hotels, marriage halls, business centres built wrongly were being razed with machines and this was being done in the public interest.
Meanwhile, the traders whose buildings were destroyed during an anti-encroachment drive took to the streets, demanding suspension of Tehsil Municipal Officer. The protesters assembled outside the Mansehra Press Club to demand an inquiry, claiming that the TMA had not issued them notices.
