KARACHI: Para Sports Pakistan (PSP) is arranging tennis wheelchairs manufacturing locally to provide more opportunities to local wheelchair tennis players.
Vice President of Pakistan Tennis Federation (Wheelchair) Khalid Rehmani told ‘The News’ that local manufacturing of tennis wheelchairs had been started. He said PTF has donated four tennis wheelchairs to Sindh Tennis Association (STA). “Chief of Joint Staff has also announced six wheelchairs and they are expected to be delivered to PTF soon,” said Khalid.
Yet, he added, they are not enough to cater to the increasing wheelchair tennis activities in the country so STA with the help of PSP have taken this initiative of manufacture tennis wheelchairs locally.
“We will receive these chairs soon and will use them to accommodate more players in our camps for wheelchair tennis,” said Khalid. He added that they have started a camp for wheelchair tennis players in Karachi and they would select players for national and provincial competitions in the coming months. “Our target is to take two best wheelchair players to international competitions in the region in 2020,” said Khalid.
