KARACHI: The PHF congress meeting is likely to be held on Thursday in Lahore or Islamabad, as it is necessary to hold the meeting after announcement of the name of PHF president.
Khalid Khokhar, the new president of PHF, has to take vote of confidence in the meeting, ‘The News’ has learnt.
Sources said that letters were being sent to PHF congress members about the meeting.
They said nothing concrete had emerged about the composition of the new management and what its priorities would be.
The name of the new PHF secretary could not be confirmed but it is being speculated that the secretary will also be from Pakistan army, which has a strong sports culture and infrastructure.
A source who wanted to remain anonymous said that a brigadier, who has played hockey at the domestic level and worked as DG of Pakistan Army Sports Board, was being considered for the post of secretary.
All domestic hockey activities have remained halted for several months. No progress has been made with respect to preparing senior and junior sides for international tournaments.
Pakistan junior team is to go to Malaysia next month for the Junior Asia Cup 2015, which is also the qualifying round for the Junior World Cup 2016, which is to be held in India.
Pakistan juniors training has remained suspended since October 2014 for differences among the PHF officials.
“The new president will have to take some bold decisions with immediate effect with respect to the junior team,” said a former Pakistan player. Despite hectic efforts from existing PHF officials to stay in their positions, PHF would have a complete overhaul and soon more officials would have to step down, the sources said.
