ABBOTTABAD: Over 200 graduates were awarded degrees in eight disciplines offered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) 53rd convocation held at the regional centre of the college here on Sunday.
Specialist doctors from KP, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan received degrees from Surgeon General of Pakistan Lt-Gen Khawar Rehman who distributed degrees to doctors.
CPSP Abbottabad Region Director Professor Dr Jehangir Khan and Khalid Masood Gondal, CPSP acting president, said the CPSP was one of the best institutes of the world which was being recognised worldwide.
He said Pakistan had earned a name to be followed in the health care organisations for its quality of work. Replying to a question, he added that the CPSP is self-sufficient and had not increased fee since 2008.
The surgeon general of Pakistan said the CPSP had been progressing tremendously in the last 15 years, adding over 24,000 fellows and 10,000 members of the college were playing role in the healthcare service delivery. Prof Khalid Masood, Senior Vice-President of CPSP, administered the oath to the new fellows and members. He hoped the new fellows and members would spend lives in serving humanity as per their oath.
A total of 200 doctors from Punjab, KP, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad were awarded fellowships and memberships in the health professions education. Professor Dr Jehangir Khan, who was the chief organiser for the convocation, urged the new specialist doctors to serve the ailing people. He said over 32,000 specialist doctors were providing service in the health sector in 74 disciplines while 28,000 were currently registered and receiving specialized training in different hospital s of the country and also abroad.
Dr Jehangir Khan said specialisation would be started in Emergency Medicines in Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex for which the Board of Governors had granted approval.
