Fitness centre set up in IPH

LAHORE:A gymnasium/fitness centre equipped with the latest machines has been set up with the collaboration of World Health Organization (WHO) in the Institute of Public Health (IPH).

According to a press release, WHO Country Head Dr Palitha Mahipala inaugurated the gym on Friday. Former Punjab Governor and IPH Board of Management Chairman Lt Gen Khalid Maqbool, IPH Dean Prof Zarfishan Tahir and other senior officials were also present.

Dr Mahipala said promotion and adoption of healthy lifestyle was essential for prevention of diseases. He said taking balanced diet/nutrition, refraining from smoking and alcohol and doing regular exercise/physical activities was necessary for healthy life. Dr Mahipala said setting up gym in IPH was to emphasise the importance of physical healthy activities.

Lt-Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool said role of IPH in promotion of healthy lifestyle, creation of awareness and prevention of diseases would be expanded and WHO's collaboration in this regard would be appreciated. Dr Zarfishan Tahir declared the IPH as no-smoking area. She said the decision would strictly be implemented in the institute. She said the gymnasium facility was available for all the faculty members, students and the employees of the institute.
