PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), in collaboration with National Highway Authority (NHA) and line departments, has successfully rehabilitated 82km Chakdara-Fatehpur Road with the financial support of Saudi Fund for Development.

The Chakdara-Mingora-Fatehpur road consists of two undivided lanes of total standard width of 7.3m with 2 meters wide, which directly benefits the local community and tourists.

The project was completed in two years. The rehabilitation of the road from Mingora to Fatehpur does envisage great improvement in traffic

flow and a great increase in the number of vehicles carrying capacity of the road, which in turn relieves pressure on other roads, especially the Shamozai-Kabal-Mingora Road.

The Saudi-funded project also envisages widening and improvement of the road through the increased pavement width where the pavement width is less than 7.3 meters, higher load-carrying capacity, better treated wider shoulders and proper drainage facilities in order to facilitate the tourists as well as the local population of all cities and towns situated astride this road.

Fahad Ali, a resident of Chakdara, stated that there were big hurdles while travelling on this road due to its worst condition.

“We are grateful for steps taken by the provincial government, Provincial Disaster Management Authority & National Highway Authority for the rehabilitation of this road while other community members highly appreciated the financial support of Saudi Fund in this regard,” he said.

He said the tourism industry is flourishing and the locals whose business is affiliated with the tourism industry are also benefitting from it.
