CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Thursday said the Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) could not deliver on its pledges in the last 15 months and instead made a century in U-turns.

Addressing separate rallies in Charsadda and in Swabi districts to record protest against the rising inflation, he said that the PTI selected government gave gifts of the inflation and unemployment to the people.

A large number of QWP workers participated in the protests and chanted slogans against the government. “The increase in debt and the devaluation of the rupees has left the masses at the mercy of inflation and soaring prices of everyday commodities,” he remarked.

Sikandar Sherpao said that in the PTI’s first fiscal year, Pakistan’s debt surged from Rs29.88 trillion to Rs40 trillion ($255 billion). He added that remarkably the debt increased by Rs11 trillion in just a year. The QWP added that packages to the tune of billions of rupees were given to top businessmen, while subsidy for poor was withdrawn. “Inflation was used as a tool to raise prices by different mafias like sugar mafia to earn billions,” he added. He added that instead of tackling the issue of price-hike, ministers of selected government showed ignorance, which added insult to injury. “They are living in another world where tomatoes are sold for Rs17/kg, peas for Rs5/kg, petrol for Rs75/litre,” he sneered. Sikandar Sherpao said the QWP would continue the protest against anti-people policies of the PTI government.
