PESHAWAR: An accountability court on Wednesday extended the 14-day judicial remand of former provincial minister Murid Kazim and three other officials of the Revenue Department in the illegal land transfer case.
The National Accountability Bureau Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had arrested the former minister and two officials for illegally transferring the state land to Naval Families Rehabilitation Organisation (NERO) in 2010. The transferred land is 1976 kanals and located in Dera Ismail Khan.
The Accountability Court Judge Tariq Yousafzai extended the judicial remand of the former minister and three other officials after hearing the arguments. The accused officials included the then district officer of the Revenue Department Qayyum Nawaz. He was posted as assistant commissioner Lakki Marwat at the time of arrest. The other arrested officials are
district officer Revenue Riaz Muhammad and an assistant of the Board of Revenue, Gul Hassan
The NAB prosecutors claimed that as per rules the allotment of alternative land was the prerogative of the chief minister of the province, but the former minister in connivance with the other accused officials transferred the land illegally. The NAB stated that the ex-minister had also transferred 182 kanals of residential land to officers of the Revenue Department as kickbacks.
