PIMA demands urgent solution to PMDC crisis

Islamabad:Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) has demanded the restoration of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for immediate relief to thousands of doctors and medical students who are stranded due to the overnight dissolution of PMDC as there are serious issues related to registration renewal, faculty appraisal and house jobs, which no one is able to answer.

In the fourth meeting of Central Executive Council (CEC) of PIMA held here in the federal capital, the PIMA passed a resolution terming the dissolution of PMDC a source of embarrassment to Pakistani medical fraternity worldwide, affecting scores of Pakistani doctors aspiring for registration in different countries for post-graduation.

The two-day meeting, attended by 55 members from all across Pakistan, was presided over by PIMA President Professor Muhammad Afzal Mian and Professor Khubaib Shahid, General Secretary of the association.

The meeting reviewed and planned various projects of PIMA including medical relief, medical education, health advocacy, medical students and international affairs.

The resolution passed by the PIMA states that the recent Medical Teaching Institutions ordinance and its aftermath in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has resulted in extreme bad taste among the local doctors. The Government should refrain from taking any action which is against general public and medical fraternity, reads the resolution.

In the meeting, chairman of the convention Professor Muhammad Iqbal Khan shared details of the upcoming PIMA/FIMA Convention 2020 that would take place in April in Islamabad. He said it was expected that over 2500 doctors from all over Pakistan and 150 delegates from abroad would take part in the up-coming convention.

The four-day programme will have a galaxy of sessions with cutting edge technology, medical updates, best medical practices, medical ethics and spirituality, he said.
