‘Women must be courageous to get inheritance’

LAHORE :The third sitting of Alhamra’s popular series "Kuch Yaadain Kuch Batain,” was held here Friday at Alhamra Arts Centre, The Mall.

The renowned lawyer Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal was the guest speaker.

The event was hosted by Sumera Khalil. In the third episode of the series, Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal who has served in the judiciary shared her childhood, education, life experiences and her judiciary journey in detail with the audience.

During the conversation, Justice Nasira said that people have to protect their rights, women have to muster up the courage to take their right in the inheritance, there has to be awareness in this regard because the law of inheritance came 1,400 years ago. She said the consolidation and development of our homeland is a shared responsibility of all of us, whom we must cherish in a spirit of honesty and patriotism, we can be guided by the thoughts of our great leaders like Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

On the occasion, Lahore Arts Council Board of Governors’ Chairperson Moneeza Hashmi said that Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal not only played a vital role in making laws for women's rights but also struggled to pass them, which is a great victory of her vision. She said that, this fearless and courageous woman who understands the Constitution and the law is a role model for me.

Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Athar Ali Khan said it was very important to recognise the bright impressions of the lives of these great people to our younger generation who have dedicated their lives to lead the nation.

He said that our youth can take the lead in their lives through the experiences of these great people. Lahore Arts Council’s initiative “Kuch Yaadain Kuch Batain” provided the audience with an opportunity to listen to their favourite personalities. The audience appreciated the efforts of Lahore Arts Council for arranging such events.

Seminar: University of Education (UE) organised an awareness walk and educational seminar to create awareness about breast cancer here on Friday.

During the walk, the students carried banners stressing the need for early diagnose of breast cancers.

Later, a seminar was held which was attended by the faculty and students of the university. Dr Maryam Hasan from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre spoke in about the breast cancer. She said breast cancer was a widespread disease and was the prominent cause of deaths among women. She said breast cancer was preventable and could be cured if diagnosed early. Dr Maryam stressed on the need to include fruits and vegetables in daily diet as well as exercise on a daily basis to have a healthy lifestyle.

UE Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha stressed upon the need to create awareness among girls about the deadly disease.

quiz contests: Punjab University’s Directorate of Student Affair organised Inter-Departmental Quiz Competitions 2019 at Al Raazi Hall here on Friday.

In the competitions, students from Institute of Administrative Sciences Umer Saeed and Abdul Hannan clinched first position, Institute of Communication Studies’ Muhammad Umar Farooq and Shehryar Abbasi got second position and Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology’s Wania Noureen and Ayesha Shahbaz grabbed third position.

Student Affair Director Prof Dr Asmatullah congratulated the students on their achievement and said that PU administration was providing platform to the students so that they could polish their talent and enhance their capacities.
