KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi division on Wednesday organised a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club against ‘vindictive actions’ against the PPP leadership under the garb of accountability drive and rising inflation in the country.

Addressing the protest, PPP Karachi Division President and Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani said a trial of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur was yet to start but they had been incarcerated in a manner as if they were terrorists.

He said pressure tactics were being used against Zardari to get his version changed. Such tactics had been employed against PPP leaders in the past too, but they all failed. He added that the law should be uniformly applied in the cases against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and PPP leader Talpur.

Ghani maintained that it had happened for the first time in the history of the country that the suspected crime had taken place in one province and the trial would be conducted in another province. “Nobody can understand why the PPP is being treated in such a manner. Same was the treatment meted out to Shaheed Bhutto.”

He said trials over allegations of financial corruption had been pending against ministers belonging to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf but no one dared to arrest them. He called for justice in the cases of the incarcerated leaders of PPP, including Zardari, Talpur, and Khursheed Shah.

He said that Zardari and Talpur had been incarcerated for the last six months without any valid reason, Ghani said. He added that the PPP co-chairman had earlier remained imprisoned for 11 years without any allegation proved against him.
