Northern take charge against Southern Punjab
RAWALPINDI: Some brilliant all-round performance from Northern pinned down Southern Punjab, forcing them to follow on in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy first-class match here at the KRL Ground on Wednesday.
Resuming at the overnight score of 149-2 in the first innings, Southern Punjab were bowled out for 268, leaving follow on option for the Northern which their skipper utilised.
Batting for the second time, Southern Punjab reached 76 for the loss of Sami Aslam (14) wicket. Umer Siddique (39 not out) was at the crease.
Earlier, Shadab Khan (3-33) from 10.5 overs and Waqas Ahmed (2-53) bowled well for Northern to pack Southern Punjab for a low total. Umer Siddique (60), Zeeshan Ashraf (57), Adnan Akmal (45) and Muhammad Irfan (37) played well.
No one however stayed long at the wicket to help their side chase 463 for seven scored by Northern in their first innings. Southern Punjab ultimately conceding 195 first innings lead from which they have already scored 76. Northern required another 119 runs to nullify the lead with nine wickets and day to spare.
