Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sajid Kiani has directed for ensuring active functioning of conciliatory as well as security and vigilance committees to combat crime and making the city more secure.
The SSP Islamabad held a meeting with members of such committees working at six police stations which was also attended among others by SP (Saddar) Rizwan Umer Gondal, SDPOs and SHOs of police stations in Saddar Zone.
The SSP Sajid Kiani said that purpose of conciliatory committees is to resolve minor disputes which may take time to settle. He said that such committees have representation of notables of a particular society who are very much effective in resolving disputes of petty nature.
He said that meetings will be held in future to review the performance of such committees and a proper guideline would be shared with them as how to handle cases of various nature.
Sajid Kiani said that security and vigilance committees were constituted in past keeping in view of law and order situation. He said there are 3,200 members of such committees and 97 beat officers have been also appointed for complete cooperation with these members.
He said that main purpose of security and vigilance committees is to monitor the activities around them and inform police in case of any suspicious activity. He assured that name of those given important information will be kept secret and complete coordination will be made with such person. He said that mobile SMS system has been introduced for the purpose and hoped cooperation from citizens to ensure peace and tranquillity in the society.
He said that police is utilizing all available resources for protection to the lives and property of citizens and said that cooperation of community is key to ensure it.
The members of conciliatory as well as security and vigilance committees gave suggestions to handle various police related affairs which the SSP assured to look into.
Sajid Kiani said that SHOs in police stations are being appointed on merit. Chairman Conciliatory Committee at Golra Police Station, Aslam Khokhar assured SSP of complete coordination and said that joint efforts will bring fruitful results.
The SSP thanked all the committees’ members and hoped for enhanced coordination in future to combat anti-social elements.
